United Way Dallas is proud to promote First3Years’ Safe Babies program. This program works to advance the healthy development of infants and toddlers while in foster care. Safe Babies educates and advocates for child learning, thinking, and growing during visitation. Through this work, First3Years has come to learn that family visitation rooms at Child Protective Services’ locations are often devoid of appropriate toys for infants and toddlers. Safe Babies seeks to improve the visiting conditions of visitation rooms, so they are family-focused, child-specific, and allow opportunities for families to meaningfully connect through clean play areas, activities to encourage parent-child interaction, developmentally appropriate toys, and provision of basic necessities as needed
Safe Babies Dallas County has 4 rooms to support in 2023; opportunities currently available are the first Saturday of the month from 9-11am.
Volunteer opportunities would include:
• Clean and disinfect
• Reorganize rooms
• Replace broken items
• Donate/sort age appropriate books (ages 0-18 months)
Volunteers need to be 18+, if there is a child 17 and under a parent must be present. Volunteer groups welcomed.
